Delhi cop sent to judicial custody in rape case
Friday, April 25, 2008 19:15 [IST]

New Delhi: A city court on Friday sent to judicial custody a Delhi Police constable and his real estate agent friend for allegedly abducting and raping a 11-year-old girl in outer Delhi.

The accused, Sanjeev Rana, who worked in the traffic wing of Delhi Police, and his acquaintance Naresh were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate B K Jangla, who sent them to 14 days judicial custody. Rana, whose services were terminated Friday, reportedly confessed before the judge to abducting the girl and raping her in a moving car.

He and Narender dragged the minor, a resident of Nangalpuni, into a car at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday from near Shahbad Dairy locality in outer Delhi. The duo then raped and dumped her near where they had abducted the girl. The victim reached home and informed her parents, who rushed her to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital and alerted the police.

"I was waiting outside a temple for my parents, when they picked me up and dragged me to a car. They threatened me to keep mum or they would strangle me. They both raped me in the car," the victim said. The victim’s father alleged that police did not register the case before it was highlighted in the media.

“They even refused to listen to us,” he said. In a similar incident earlier this month, three men, known to the victim, had gang-raped a minor girl in a moving car in west Delhi.
