Islamabad: The family of Indian national Sarabjit Singh, currently on death row in a Pakistani jail following his conviction for alleged involvement in bomb attacks, is awaiting an official response to its requests to meet top leaders to seek clemency for him.
Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur, who arrived in Lahore on Tuesday, said she was yet to get a response to her requests to meet PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and to travel to Islamabad to meet top leaders like Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani.
"We have not heard anything as yet from the Pakistan government or the aides of Sharif," Dalbir said.
Dalbir, who travelled to Pakistan with her husband Baldev Singh and Sarabjit's wife Sukhpreet Kaur and his daughters Swapandeep and Poonam, said they were also hoping that they would be able to meet Sarabjit once more before they returned to India next week.
The family had an emotional reunion with Sarabjit on Wednesday.
The condemned Indian man's kin have been issued visas valid for only one week that allow them to visit only Lahore and Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.
The Pakistan government has said it is "actively considering" India's request for Sarabjit's clemency but there was no indication as to when the interior ministry and the Prime Minister's secretariat would decide on the petition.
The execution of Sarabjit sentenced to death for alleged involvement in four bomb attacks in Punjab province in 1990 that killed 14 people was deferred for 30 days by President Pervez Musharraf last month so that Pakistan's new government could review his case following an appeal for clemency from the Indian government.
