Sobharaj trying to influence court: Judges

Kathmandu: Notorious international criminal Charles Sobharaj has offered to pay for the education of a Nepali girl, expelled from her house by her parents for having voted in favour of the Maoists in the recently held polls.

Sobharaj, 64, serving a 20-year term in Kathmandu's central jail for the murder of an American tourist in 1975, wrote to a local daily offering help to the girl.

The move is being seen by many as an attempt to woo the Maoists, who are set to form the next government in Nepal after emerging as the single largest party in election.

Lawyers here have criticised Sobharaj for trying to influence the judges through this
