Puducherry: All councillors of Puducherry municipality, cutting across party lines, have formed a Federation to push their joint demand for conferring more powers and also supervising authority to ensure speedy construction of infrastructure in their respective wards

The purpose of forming the Federation was to present petitions jointly by all councilors, including Independents to the Chief Minister and other ministers and also leaders of political parties to ensure availability of adequate powers to the council to implement the development schemes, Annibal Nehru, head of the Federation, told reporters here.

He said that as many as 18 subjects fell within the authority of the municipal council. However there were several obstacles and the elected body was bereft of authorities which should be addressed immediately, he said.
