Rattan to contest by-polls from Hamirpur
Saturday, April 26, 2008 22:52 [IST]
New Delhi: Congress tonight announced the candidature of O P Rattan for the bye-election to Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh.

A senior leader from Una district, Rattan's name was approved by Congress president Sonia Gandhi from a panel of four names submitted by the state unit. Rattan will face BJP's Anurag Singh Thakur, the son of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the May 22 election.

Hamirpur parliamentary constituency had fallen vacant after Dhumal resigned in January to take over as Chief Minister of the state.
