NDA scores major victories in Bihar council polls

Patna: Dissidence among its MLAs notwithstanding, Bihar's ruling NDA scored major victories, wresting two of the eight seats from the UPA in the elections to the state legislative council.

While JD(U)'s Vinod Chaudhary wrested Darbhanga graduates seat from Congress nominee Dilip Chaudhary defeating him by 2884 votes, Neeraj Kumar of the same party trounced RJD's Azad Gandhi by 5026 votes in the contest for Patna graduates constituency, state Election office sources said after the counting that continued till wee hours today.

BJP's Narendra Prasad Singh retained his Tirhut Teachers constituency humbling CPI's Sanjay Singh by 1127 votes.

CPI-M's Basudev Singh secured a third term from Darbhanga Teachers seat defeating his nearest BJP rival Harinarain Singh by 1898 votes, while RJD's Naval Kishore Rai too got elected for a third term from Patna Teachers constituency beating his nearest JD(U) rival Janardan Prasad Singh by 708 votes.

Veerkeshwar Prasad Singh of BJP earned for himself another term defeating his nearest Independent rival Yogendra Mahto by 7563 votes for Kosi Graduates constituency.

CPI's Kedar Pandey defeated his Congress rival Chandrama Singh by 403 votes to retain Saran Teachers seat in a keenly fought contest.

JD(U)'s Devesh Chandra Thakur retained Tirhut Graduates seat beating his nearest RJD rival Veena Devi by 1753 votes.
