'Quake wounds more than 100 in western Iran'
Thursday, May 01, 2008 13:04 [IST]
Tehran: Iranian state TV on Thursday said an earthquake with a magnitude 4.7 has injured more than 100 people in western Iran.

The report said the mild quake jolted three towns in Lorestan province at 4:45 am (local time) today.

It quotes the head of Lorestan's emergency department, Reza Ariai, as saying at least 70 people were wounded in the city of Boroujerd, 350 kilometers southwest of the capital Tehran.

Iran is located on several seismic fault lines and is prone to earthquakes, experiencing at least one slight quake every day on average.

In March 2006, three earthquakes and nine aftershocks hit the same area in quick succession, killing at least 70 people and injuring about 1,200.
