Landslide buries over 30 labourers in J&K
Thursday, May 01, 2008 13:25 [IST]

Jammu: Over 30 labourers working with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir were buried under a massive landslide on Thursday morning, the police said.

The accident occured on the Kishtwar-Chatroo road, about 220 km north of the state's winter capital Jammu.

"The labourers were in two trucks, which were hit by a massive landslide on the mountainous road at around 9 am," a police official said. "At this point of time neither the two tippers are visible nor the labourers."

Rescue teams were rushed to the spot. However rescue operations could not be launched immediately, as stones were still rolling down the slope and there was a continuous flow of mud, said the police.
