Three killed in encounter in J&K

Srinagar: Two militants and a jawan were killed and two other army personnel injured in an operation lasting four days in Handwara area of Kupwara district, a defence spokesman said today.

The operation in Chournar forest of Handwara started on April 28.

An unidentified militant and an army jawan were killed in the encounter after the search parties established contact with the militants hiding in the forest belt yesterday.

On Monday, an operation was launched following specific information about presence of militants, which resulted in the gunbattle.

The encounter left an unidentified militant and two army personnel, including Colonel A K Sharma, injured.

Two ak assault rifles and some ammunition and grenades were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.
