Union Cabinet approves CRPC (amendment) Bill

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, 2006, which seeks to improve the criminal justice system of the country.

"The Union Cabinet met on Thursday and approved the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, 2006," Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.

The Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha August 23, 2006 and then referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee. The suggestions of the committee have been incorporated in the Bill. The Bill aims to improve the administration of the criminal justice system.
