Karuna flays Ramadoss for opposing SEZ
Thursday, May 01, 2008 23:04 [IST]

Chennai: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today flayed PMK founder'S Ramadoss for his criticism of the Tamil Nadu Government's joint venture with the Tata Reality for an IT SEZ here.

Karunanidhi said the former's stand against such steps was ridiculous when there was a mad rush amongst the states to attract corporate houses to create more jobs.

Writing in DMK's official organ Murasoli , he rejected the charge of Ramadoss, whose party is supporting the DMK that the Government land was being handed over to private sector for a song and being converted for real estate purpose.

He said the government had neither given its land nor acquired agricultural land for the proposed Rs 3,000 crore SEZ project, an MoU for which was signed in the presence of Karunanidhi on April 28.

He said the SEZ would have a conference hall of international standard, posh hostels only in a few lakh square meters and the industries would come in the rest.

Earlier, Ramadoss demanded a white paper on the SEZs in the state.

Speaking to reporters at Tindivanam today, he accused the state government of attempting to handover government lands to private firms for SEZs.
