Olympic torch relay concludes in Macao

Macao: Thousands of people cheered here on Saturday as the Olympic torch on the Macao leg of its global tour completed its run without any interruption. The torch relay, which started at 3.50 p.m., lasted for more than three hours. A total of 120 torchbearers took part in the 27-km relay.

Thousand of people gathered at the performing ground of the Fisherman's Wharf to witness the event. "The lighting of the Beijing Olympic torch relay Cauldron in Macao signifies the completion of the run here," said Leong Heng Teng, executive council member of the Macao government.

“We want to show the world that Chinese people are capable of organising such a big event and wish a successful Beijing Olympic games,” Sophia Lay, a student of Sacred Heart Cannossian College, said.

The relay also took place on Chinese dragon boats at Sai Van Lake, featuring traditional Chinese culture. The next destination for the torch relay is in Hainan Province of China.
