Militant shot dead in J&K

Srinagar: Security forces shot dead a militant in a gunfight and recovered large quantity of ammunition from a hideout in Kupwara district today.

An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter in the west area of Pathri Post in North Kashmir Kupwara district by the troops of eight Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry of Army yesterday, a police spokesman said.

An AK 47 rifle, twelve maps and a grenade were recovered from the possession of the slain militant.

In a separate operation, an army spokesman said troops of 41 Rashtriya Rifles unearthed a hideout during search operations in Pandodus Forest in Kupwara district.

The seizure made from the hideout included 1500 rounds of AK ammunition, two 107mm Rocket, six RPG rounds, seven boosters, 26 Under Barrel Grenade Launcher grenades and ten pouches, the spokesman said.
