Patna: Twenty-eight convicts lodged in Siwan district jail have been shifted to Bhagalpur special central jail, jail superintendent L K Sinha said.

Terming the shifting as a "routine affair", Sinha said among the convicts who were shifted to the special central jail, nine of them were serving life-term.

"Though the prisoners, initially resisted the order to transfer them to the other jail, they were persuaded by the authorities to obey it", he said.

Jehangir Khan and Md Khalid, who were earlier deployed as personal security guards of incarcerated RJD MP Md Shahabuddin and lodged in judicial custody here, too, were transferred to the Bhagalpur special jail, official sources said.

The move was aimed at defusing tension, which was prevailing in the jail after a recent clash between two rival groups of prisoners over some trivial issue, the sources added.
