Tuesday, May 06, 2008 10:54 [IST]

Amritsar: Five Sri Lankan girls, who were trying to go to Italy on fake visas, were arrested by immigration authorities at the Rajasansi Airport here.

Police said the five girls had come to Bangalore in March and then gone to Delhi where they spent a month.

They arrived in Amritsar on Sunday evening and were arrested yesterday when they tried to board an Air India flight.

Investigation revealed that the girls belonged to poor families from Sri Lanka and wanted to go to Italy to seek greener pastures.

The arrested girls were identified as Diana (21), Nishani (24), Warna Kullar Surya (21), Thilini (18) and Samanthi (36).
