Women's bill introduced in Rajya Sabha
Tuesday, May 06, 2008 12:47 [IST]
New Delhi: The much-delayed Bill providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures was today introduced in Rajya Sabha amid dramatic scenes and protests by Samajwadi Party members.

As Law Minister H R Bhardwaj got up to introduce the Bill, SP member Abu Asim Azmi, who along with his party colleagues was in the Well protesting against anti-North Indian remarks by MNS chief Raj Thackeray, tried to snatch the copy of the Bill.

However, the Minister was able to introduce the Bill by a voice vote.
