Iranians in Malaysia protest anti-Iran film
Tuesday, May 06, 2008 22:23 [IST]

Kuala Lumpur: Iranians living in Malaysia Tuesday lodged their protest with the government against a cable channel's plans to screen a Hollywood movie they consider as anti-Iranian, official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran's Ambassador in Kuala Lumpur Mehdi Khandaq-Abadi led the group of Iranians to lodge Tehran's official protest during a meeting with Malaysia's Minister of Information Ahmad Shabery Cheek against the cable channel's plan to show the movie "300" that Iranians believe distorted their country's history.

Iranians take the Warner Bros. movie based on a novel by Frank Millerfilm as a sheer negligence of the civilization of the great nation and an affront to their national identity.

Malaysia's Astro cable TV channel planned to show the movie May 25.

In their protest note, the Iranians said the screening of the movie was an attempt to slander the Iranian people and their civilization. More than 10,000 Iranians live in Malaysia.

The film "300" is about a war between ancient Iran and Greece and according to Iranians, the movie has depicted ancient Persians (modern Iranians) as cruel, blood-thirsty and culture-less people.

Iran's officials described the Hollywood's insulting movie as "a hostile behaviour which is the result of cultural and psychological warfare".
