LTTE leader arrested in UK

London: Arunachalam Chrishanthakumar alias A C Shanthan, the de-facto leader of the LTTE in Britain, was arrested today for a second time in less than a year in connection with fund-raising and procurement activities for the militant outfit.

51-year-old Shanthan was first arrested in June 2007 under Britain's Terrorism Act before being released on bail in November.

"The 51-year-old man was arrested by the anti-terrorist units of the Metropolitan Police together with Wiltshire Police at Swindon in the Wiltshire Constabulary today at 6 am (11:30 IST) at a pre-dawn raid," Wiltshire Police said:

He was re-arrested after three more people were detained for questioning on April 29.

Shanthan was allegedly operating with LTTE leader Anton Balasingham closely to build up the outfit in London.

He accompanied Balasingham for peace talks in Geneva in 2006.
