New Delhi: Delhi government has decided to expand the first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor but with slight modifications on the second part of the route stretching from Moolchand to Dilli Gate in the national capital.
"We have decided to expand the stretch from Moolchand to Dilli Gate in central Delhi here on this 9.5-kilometre long route. The buses will ply on the left side of the road instead of the central lane. There will be no dividers segregating the car and bus lane as has been done in the case of Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand stretch. The decision has been taken after deliberations with the BRT experts and traffic police," Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said.
The decision was taken at a meeting held today under the chairmanship of Mehta. He said, we will see the success of both the models -- from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand and Moolchand to Dilli Gate.
A detailed study will be conducted soon for the second stretch of the corridor. A few days ago, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had said that the project will be expanded only after the success of the existing 5.8-kilometre stretch.
Her comments came in the wake of the intense criticism of the 5.8 kilometre stretch, which is the first of the six proposed corridors for the capital. Source : PTI
