Naxalites kill ex-panchayat head in Bihar
Wednesday, May 07, 2008 12:24 [IST]

Motihari: Naxalites shot dead the former head of Madhuban Ghat panchayat in Bihar's East Champaran district and critically injured his father and brother, police said today.

An armed squad of CPI (Maoist) activists, comprising 30 guerrillas, raided Madhuban Ghat village late last night and opened fire at Nand Lal Sah, his father and brother.

While Sah was killed on the spot, his family members were rushed to a hospital in a serious condition.

Sah's wife Pushpa is currently the head of Madhuban Ghat panchayat. Though the exact reason behind the incident was not not immediately known, police said the Maoists might have suspected Sah of being a police informer.
