Homage paid at statue of unknown solider

Puducherry: Revenue department secretary T Balakrishnan, Vice Consul General of France in Puducherry Francois Striby and representatives of French nationals in the French assembly today paid homage at 'Soldat Inconnu' (Unknown Soldier) statue at the war memorial here today on the 63rd anniversary of the conclusion of the Second World War.

The memorial is maintained by the French government.

Representatives of a number of associations of retired French civil and military personnel also placed wreaths at the foot of the statue and stood in silence for a couple of minutes in memory of those who laid down their lives for the cause of France in the World war.

Members of the Puducherry police band presented the Indian and French national songs at the venue.
