New Delhi: Resident doctors of Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital in the capital tonight called off their strike to protest an attack on physicians by relatives of a dead patient after the Delhi government assured them that security at the facility will be enhanced within a week.
The decision to end the strike, which began last night, came after a meeting of the agitating doctors with Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta this afternoon.
"We have called of the strike as Mehta has assured us that the security arrangements at the hospital will be enhanced within five days," a spokesperson of the LNJP Resident Doctors Association said.
Normalcy has returned and all departments are working normally, he said.
Earlier in the day, emergency and OPD services were affected following the strike and patients were returned without treatment as the protest entered the second day.
Delhi Health Secretary Vivek Rae also spoke to Medical Superintendent Swaraj Batra to find a solution to the strike in the morning but could not make any headway.
