Friday, May 09, 2008 12:12 [IST]
Varanasi: The anti-terrorist cell (ATC) on Thursday arrested a suspected hawala agent and seized Rs 9 lakh in cash from him.

Sources said the ATC was receiving information about the increase in hawala trade here from the agent Naim.

Naim, a resident of Mehanagar in Azamgarh district, sells CDs in Dalmandi area here.

The ATC team and the Sarnath police reached Ashapur crossing and arrested Naim last evening.

Naim said most of the hawala money arrives here from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.
