Two Indian smugglers shot dead by Pak guards
Friday, May 09, 2008 13:05 [IST]

Islamabad: Pakistani border guards have shot dead two alleged Indian smugglers in a shootout along the frontier in the Wagah sector and seized 50 bottles of liquor from them.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Rangers said, three Indian smugglers were trying to cross the border near the Qasim check post at around 3.30 am yesterday when they were asked to surrender by the border guards.

However, the smugglers opened fire and this sparked a gun battle, the spokesman said, adding two were killed while the third managed to escape.

Officials also seized 50 bottles of liquor which were allegedly being smuggled from India and handed over the bodies to the local police.
