Rourkela: The son of a former MLA was arrested for his alleged links with hardcore criminals and gangsters lodged in the special jail here, police said today.
After verification of various SIM cards of the mobile sets seized from the inmates of the special jail, police arrested Bulu Mohanty, son of former MLA Brajakishore Mohanty, last night on charges of having links with criminals lodged in the high security prison, they said.
With the arrest of Bulu, police has so far arrested six persons from the city for having link with the criminals.
Most of the arrested persons are businessmen and scrap iron dealers. Police also detained four other businessmen for their nexus with the jail inmates for interrogation.
Bulu was produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded him to custody for 14 days, police said.
All the six arrested businessmen had been working for the jailed gangsters Ayub Khan, Roshan Ali, Papu Khan and Munu Khan, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid inside the jail on April 30 and seized six mobile sets, cash over Rs 40,000 and sophisticated items from various cells. Investigation was on and some more people are likely to be arrested, police said.
