New Delhi: An IIT aspirant was today found murdered at his house in south Delhi and the police suspected someone known to him to be behind the crime.
Sanchit Sachdeva (18) met with the violent end sometime in the afternoon and the murderers banged his head to the wall to kill him before decamping with the family's car and his mobile phone, a senior police official said.
The teenager was found lying in a pool of blood by his mother Preeti, who works in Information and Broadcasting Ministry, when she returned from office at around 5:15 p.m.
"It seems to be a friendly entry and there are no signs of ransacking. The neighbours also did not hear any voice. We suspect that someone known to the victim is behind the crime," Deputy Commissioner of Police H G S Dhaliwal told reporters.
Sanchit, who passed out from Delhi Police Public School this year, had spoken to his father R K Sachdeva, a personal assistant to a senior Bharat Petroleum official, at around 11:30 a.m. After that he was incommunicado.
The parents had called him on his mobile phone several times after one p.m. But could not get through as it was "switched off", Dhaliwal said. The parents did not suspect any foul play as they thought he might be busy with his studies, he said.
The incident came to light when Preeti returned home and saw the doors open and Sanchit lying in a pool of blood with blood oozing out of his head. She informed police, who rushed him to AIIMS where doctors declared him brought dead. The family had moved to the Lodhi Colony residence from Sarojini Nagar only two-and-half months ago.
