India should go ahead with nuclear deal: Kalam
Friday, May 09, 2008 22:53 [IST]

Bhubaneswar: India should go ahead with the Indo-US Nuclear deal because it would give a boost to country's nuclear programme, former President A P J Abdul Kalam said here today.

We have plenty of thorium but very small reserve of uranium and it will take a lot of time to develop thorium based nuclear reactor, Kalam, who is on a visit here told PTI.

In order to carry forward its nuclear activities, India requires more quantity of uranium, if India signs the nuclear deal it will get uranium, he said.

Asked whether signing the nuclear deal with US will affect our nuclear sovereignty, Kalam said "India is an independent country and nobody can harm us."
