PML-N threatens to quit Cabinet over judges
Saturday, May 10, 2008 11:32 [IST]

Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has again threatened to quit the cabinet if judges of the higher courts sacked by President Pervez Musharraf are not given back their jobs by Monday.

A PML-N leader stated this as talks between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London over the judges remained inconclusive.

"We are set to quit the cabinet but will continue to support the PPP government if the judges are not restored by Monday," the PML-N leader who did not want to be identified said.

But Sharif, after his talks with Zardari on Friday evening, said his party had not yet reached a decision on quitting the cabinet.

"Zardari has demanded another day to think and we will not take any decision before (Monday)," said Sharif, who has called a meeting of his party's executive committee in Islamabad on Monday.

Sharif made it clear that Monday would be the final deadline as far as the issue of judges was concerned.

Zardari is keeping away from the media.

Musharraf sacked more than 60 judges of the superior courts Nov 3 when he imposed emergency in the country. Both the PPP and PML-N had campaigned for the restoration of judges but now differ on the modalities.

Sharif flew to London because his wife underwent a knee surgery there.
