Guwahati: In a retaliatory attack, suspected Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) militants attacked a railway station in Assam's North Cachar Hills district killing three persons tonight hours after 12 of their members perished in an encounter with security forces.
The DHD(J) militants attacked Migrain Bisu railway station around 10 pm and opened fire, killing three persons on the spot, official sources said.
The attack was suspected to be in retaliation as the outfit's 12 members were shot dead and 18 other's injured in an encounter with army and police at Haralu village of the district earlier in the day.
The DHD(J) threatened to withdraw from the ceasefire with the Centre following today's encounter and demanded that the government stop railway broad gauge conversion work by midnight tonight.
