"The Embassy of India and the Consulate General in New York are extending all possible assistance for the completion of the formalities that include certain certifications," a senior Embassy official said.

The Consulate General in New York is directly involved in the matter but with inputs and oversight of Washington, he added.

The accident took place in West Springfield in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon in which six Indians -- Kaushik Deb (26), Manoj Jharia (35), Mili Jharia (28), Nitin Agarwal (29), Swati Agarwal (25) and Shubham Choudory (24) -- were killed when their minivan, in which they were travelling, spun out of control and crashed into another car.

The victims were travelling to Niagara Falls.

Nitin Gupta, the seventh passenger, who was sitting on the front seat, escaped with minor injuries and was later discharged from the hospital. The Police in Pennsylvania have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident. But a toxicology test was to be conducted on the driver of the minivan.
