150 militants killed in Afghanistan
Tuesday, May 13, 2008 17:52 [IST]

Kabul: At least 150 militants have been killed by Afghan and foreign troops in southern Afghanistan, a provincial governor said Tuesday.

The operations took place in Garmser district of Helmand province, a known hotbed of Taliban-led militancy, during the past seven to eight days, Helmand's provincial governor Gulab Mangal told Xinhua via phone.

He did not reveal the casualties among Afghan and foreign troops.

Afghan and international troops intensified their operations during the past weeks in Helmand, where Taliban-led militants have control over several districts.
