New Delhi: Two days after a US official nudged him and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari to reach a deal on reinstating deposed judges, former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he does not believe in soliciting external help to sort out domestic issues.
"We will never succumd to outside pressure. It is a domestic matter and we believe in resolving our issues internally rather than soliciting any advise or help from our external friends," Sharif told TimesNow news channel.
Despite a last-minute US mediation, the leaders of Pakistan's ruling coalition on Sunday failed to reach a deal on restoring deposed judges.
Ahead of Monday s deadline set by PML-N to reinstate the judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf, US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher met PML-N chief Sharif and PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari in London separately in a last-ditch attempt to bridge their differences on the vexed issue.
Sharif said all ministers of his party have quit from the coalition government led by Yousuf Raza Gillani.
He said the decision to pull out of the government will have no bearing on bilateral relations with India.
"We both (PML-N and PPP) are committed ... My party is fully committed to build up our relations with India," he said pointing out that it was during his tenure in 1999 the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had undertaken the historic bus journey to Lahore.
"That was a turning point and we would like to take things forward from that point and I have lot of appreciation for the Indian leadership," Sharif said.
