Washington: A civilian nuclear power agreement between the United States and Russia faces hurdles in Congress.
President George W. Bush notified Congress of the deal today. But lawmakers are warning they may seek to block it.
Some had urged Bush not to pursue the deal because of Russian help to Iran in building nuclear reactors. The deal would allow US access to Russian state-of-the art nuclear technology and help Russia establish an international nuclear fuel storage facility.
Following Bush's notification, the agreement will become effective unless both the Senate and the House of Representatives pass a resolution blocking it within 90 work days.
