US condemns terror attack in Jaipur
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 08:07 [IST]

Washington: The US has strongly condemned the terror attacks in Jaipur that claimed 60 lives, saying that there is no justification for the murder of innocents and expressed its "deepest sympathies" to the government and the people of India.

"The United States condemns the terrorist attacks in Jaipur that have killed and injured many innocent civilians. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families and we express our deepest sympathies to the government and the people of India," State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement.

"There is no justification for the murder of innocent people. The United States stands with the government and people of India in their ongoing fight to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and to ensure an open, democratic, peaceful and prosperous society," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Republican Co-Chair of the Congressional India Caucus on India and Indian Americans, Congressman Joe Wilson, has also condemned the bombings calling them "senseless" and reflecting the ruthless nature of the terrorists.

"These senseless attacks on innocent civilians are emblematic of the ruthless nature of terrorist enemies which threaten all peaceful nations," Wilson, law maker from South Carolina, said in a statement.

"As co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, I want to express my deepest sympathies for the people of Jaipur and the families of those killed. India is a strong and valued ally of the United States, and we must stand with the people of India in opposition to those who would perpetrate such violence," he added.

Eight bombs ripped through the city of Jaipur, leaving at least 60 people dead and nearly 200 injured.
