Wednesday, May 14, 2008 08:34 [IST]

Ottawa: Canada has strongly condemned the near-simultaneous blasts in Jaipur, which left at least 60 dead and 200 injured.

Deepak Obhrai, MP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of International Cooperation expressed Ottawa's empathy for the victims, adding that India remains a strong ally in Canada's global war on terror.

"Canada condemns the terrorist attacks in Jaipur that have killed and injured many innocent civilians," Obhrai said in a message to R L Narayan, the High Commissioner of India for Canada.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families and we express our deepest sympathies to the government and the people of India."

At least 60 people were killed and 200 injured in eight near-simultaneous blasts in Jaipur on Tuesday night.
