Two run over by train in Jalpaiguri
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 09:04 [IST]
Jalpaiguri: Two women engaged in embankment repair work on Torsa river were run over by Ranchi Express on a bridge at Hasimara in West Bengal, police said today.

Zaheda Ansari (20) and Chameli Biswakarma (22) died on the spot as Alipurduar-bound train ran over them. The mishap took place when a group of 40 labourers were walking along the railway tracks on the bridge over the Torsa river last evening, police said.

The rest of the workers escaped by clinging to the side of the bridge but Ansari, a pregnant woman, and Biswakarma failed to move from the middle of the tracks.
