For God’s sake keep VIPs out, pleads hospital
Thursday, May 15, 2008 12:10 [IST]

“For God’s sake, stop them. Otherwise, it will become very difficult to cope with the grim situation we have here at the (SMS) hospital. Patients need peace and care. The politicians are disrupting all arrangements.”

These were the words of hospital staff and attendants who were in a shock after the Jaipur blasts.

“Every other hour a VIP visits the hospital with 10-15 men, including his bodyguards and policemen, and throws the system out of gear,” said a resident doctor attending on critically-injured victims.

On Tuesday night, chief minister Vasundhara Raje, governor Shilendra Singh, mayor Ashok Parnami, Union minister of state for home Sri Prakash Jaiswal, minister for environment and forest Namo Narayan Meena, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and several other Congress and BJP leaders visited SMS hospital till late in the night.

There was total chaos when Jaiswal came to visit the trauma centre and emergency ward of SMS. In the gallery outside the south wing ward there was a jam and attendants had no way to go. Outside the emergency ward some Congress and RSS workers were having a hot talk.

The story was repeated on Wednesday when former deputy prime minister and BJP leader LK Advani, party general secretary Gopinath Munde, state president Om Prakash Mathur, education minister Kalicharan Saraf and another minister came calling. RSS leaders were also visiting wards every hour, adding to the chaos.
