Union Cabinet briefed on Jaipur blasts

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet was today briefed on Tuesday's serial bomb blasts in Jaipur, which claimed 64 lives.

National Security Adviser M K Narayanan and Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar briefed the Cabinet on the blasts in the Pink City, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Chidambaram said they spoke about the progress made in the investigations.

Asked if any breakthrough had been achieved, he said "I don't think we have reached a stage where we can say we have achieved a breakthrough".

Asked to comment on Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's statement that her state would not allow communal harmony to be jeopardised, Chidambaram said the Centre and the State government share equal responsibility in maintaining law and order.
