New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday suspended the Calcutta High Court ruling, which had stayed the 27 per cent quota for candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) seeking admission to the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C).

A bench of Chief Justice KG Balakrishan, Justice HK Sema and PP Naolekar allowed IIM-C to admit OBC category students subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions.

The Calcutta High Court Wednesday stayed the implementation of the OBC quota at IIM-C on a petition filed by a general category aspirant, Sayan Guha, challenging the government policy.

The apex court bench also transferred three petitions from the high courts of Delhi, Calcutta and Mumbai to itself. The petitions contended that graduates from OBC communities should not be entitled to reservations in admissions.
