MP Govt revamps top police brass; names new DGP
Saturday, May 17, 2008 08:49 [IST]

Bhopal: A day after reshuffling over 25 senior IAS officers ahead of Assembly polls, Madhya Pradesh government today revamped the top police brass appointing S K Raut as the new Director General of Police (DGP).

Raut replaces Anand Rao Pawar.

The government also reshuffled the top police officials, appointing HK Sareen as new Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Telecom and Fire Services, an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Vinod Chouhdry said here.

Sudarshan Kumar, ADGP, Telecom, has been shifted as ADGP, Grievances, while SS Lal, currently serving as ADGP Fire Service and Grievances, has been moved to the Economic Offences Bureau, the order said.

Pawar, who belongs to 1972 batch of the IPS, was appointed as DGP nearly two years ago replacing Swaraj Puri after a case was registered against him.

Raut, a 1974 batch officer, was serving as DG, Economic Offences Wing, while Sarin (1975 batch) was DG, Jail.

The exercise is being seen as a move to tone up the police administration ahead of the Assembly elections due later this year in the BJP-ruled state.
