Drug peddler held for smuggling smack

Kozhikode: A man who served a four-year jail term for peddling drugs has been arrested in this district of Kerala for allegedly trying to smuggle a consignment of smack from Rajasthan to Saudi Arabia.

Kunhahamed (50), hailing from Chaliyam near here, escaped from Udaipur airport on May 7 when his baggage was found to contain narcotics and arrested on Rajasthan police tip-off, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) K R Premachandran said today.

He said Kunhahamed had been jailed in Mumbai for four years after being caught by the metro's narcotics cell in 2003 and released in January this year.

During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to having smuggled the contraband to Saudi Arabia on several occasions from Udaipur by working for one Nissar there, the ACP said adding that he would be produced before a local court.

Kunhahamed was allegedly paid Rs one lakh for every kilogramme of smack (unrefined heroin) transported illegally, Premachandran added.
