Water supply to Delhi improves: Sheila
Saturday, May 17, 2008 22:13 [IST]
New Delhi: With Haryana releasing Delhi's share of water, supply has started showing improvement in the national Capital, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

Dikshit was addressing the concluding session of the 85th three-day Bhagidari Workshop here. The Chief Minister said Delhi has been insisting on only that much share of water which was prescribed as per the 1994 water sharing agreement though the demand in the city has gone up with increase in its population.

The DJB has been able to streamline drinking water supply with its effective management system and its water conservation initiatives, she said. The Distcoms have also been instructed to ensure uninterrupted supply of power.

They have been told to ensure supply even by purchasing power from other states at higher rate, Dikshit said adding, Delhi is the only state where subsidy of one rupee per unit is being given on restriction of consumption at a reasonable level.
