New Delhi: Rains continued to lash the capital for the third day today, bringing the mercury down to a cool 22.1 degrees Celsius.

While the minimum temperature was five notches below normal, the maximum was low by around three points to settle at 37.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum yesterday was 41.8 degrees C.

Met officials said thunderstorm and squalls are likely to continue for the next few days due to building up of cyclonic circulation over parts of Rajasthan.

"Similar conditions will prevail till Wednesday. The skies would remain cloudy and there is a possibility of thundershowers," Safdarjung Met official S C Bhan said.

The city was last night lashed by showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds with a speed of 100 km per hour. The storm was the strongest to have hit the city in the last decade.

The Met recorded a rainfall of 7.7 mm yesterday. "In entirety there will not significant rains but only sharp spells at times throughout the day," Bhan said.

The maximum temperature is predicted at 35 degrees Celsius for tomorrow.
