Monday, May 19, 2008 22:00 [IST]

New Delhi: A speeding Blueline bus knocked down a woman while a chartered bus crushed a man in two accidents on the controversial Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in south Delhi Monday, the police said.

Mewa, 50, was crossing the road when a Blueline bus, plying on route number 581 between Kendriya Terminal and Devli Gaon, hit her in Pushpa Vihar area around 7 p.m. She was rushed to the Modi Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The police said a case of rash and negligent driving was registered and search launched for the bus driver. Earlier, a chartered bus knocked down Ram Sharan, a 42-year-old security guard, on the BRT corridor in Ambedkar Nagar area in the morning. He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he succumbed to his injuries.

After the accident, people protested against the police, alleging that they reached the spot late. “The police came only after 45 minutes. If police had reached the spot on time, the victim's life could have been saved,” said a passer-by. The police said search was on the nab the bus driver, who ran away. Sharan was a resident of Sangam Vihar and is survived by a wife, two daughters and a son.
