Pak govt says would trace abducted Hindu trader
Monday, May 19, 2008 22:25 [IST]

Islamabad: The government of Pakistan's Balochistan province today said it would soon trace an abducted Hindu trader as it had arrested the persons involved in his kidnapping for ransom.

Provincial Home Minister Zafar Zehri assured the Balochistan Assembly that the government would soon recover kidnapped trader Sham Lal. Expressing his indignation at the kidnapping of the Hindu trader, he told the House that the government would arrest the gangs involved in such abductions and bring them to justice.

Zehri gave this assurance in response to an adjournment motion moved in the assembly by legislator Jay Parkash, the sole representative of the Hindu community in the House. Parkash expressed grave concern over an increase in incidents of kidnapping and looting involving members of the minority Hindu community in the provincial capital of Quetta.

The Speaker, while disposing of the motion, directed the home ministry to make all possible efforts to protect minorities in the province.

It was not immediately clear as to when Sham Lal had been abducted. Several Hindu traders in Balochistan were abducted by armed gangs in January this year.
