Terror outfits using different names after strike
Tuesday, May 20, 2008 22:52 [IST]

Ahmedabad: Terror outfits are using different names while claiming responsibility of different terrorist strikes though there are basically three to four such organisations, high-level officials of the state police force said.

The Jaipur serial blasts has added a new name to the list of Islamic terror organisations active in the country - Indian Mujaheedin, the official said.

The Gujarat Police have started its own investigations after the name of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi appeared in the e-mail sent to a television channel after the Jaipur blasts.

"The Anti-Terrorist Squad of the state and crime branch of Ahmedabad city are carrying out investigations whether any sleeper cell of terror outfit is present in the state or not," officials said.

"Some 50 to 60 names of different terror outfits have come up in the entire country so far. Most of the time, when a new attack takes place they come out with a new name. The state intelligence agency has included all the names of the terror outfits in its list," officials said.

"Basically, there are three to four parent terrorist organisations which includes Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jihad-a-Islami (HuJI)," the official said.

In the case of attack on Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar, police had found a letter written by an outfit called Tehriq-e-Qasas, official said adding after the attack nothing has been heard about that organisation.
