Left parties say no to n-deal, petroleum hike
Friday, May 23, 2008 18:55 [IST]

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left parties Friday reiterated that they will not support the Indo-US nuclear agreement. They also said they would not accept a hike in petroleum prices.

"Our stand against operationalisation of the 123 agreement remains," said CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat after a one-and-a-half hour meeting of Left parties here Friday.

On petroleum prices, Karat said: "There is no question of accepting any hike in oil prices."

"We have already given our proposals to the government for restructuring the petroleum tax structure," said Karat following the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's assertion that a hike in oil prices was imminent following rising international crude prices.
