Thursday, May 29, 2008 09:25 [IST]

Bridgeport (US): A popular Indian classical musician has been charged with molesting a 14-year-old student. Shafaatullah Khan, 42, a native of India who lives in Pennsylvania, was charged with multiple counts of corruption of a minor, indecent assault and related offenses.

The girl, now 16, said in court on Tuesday that she took keyboard lessons at Khan's home and that he molested her in 2006 and 2007, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in its yesterday editions. Judge James Gallagher ordered Khan to surrender his passport and not give lessons to minors.

Khan, a US Citizen since 1995, has performed in concerts worldwide and is featured on more than a dozen CDs and an Imax documentary called 'Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey'. Khan's attorney, Vincent DiFabio, said his client would be exonerated.
