Bangalore: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday got its first government in south India when a 30-member ministry headed by B S Yeddyurappa took office in Karnataka.
Watched by a galaxy of party leaders and tens of thousands of cheering supporters, Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa, 65, took the oath of office and secrecy in Kannada in the name of god.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur administered the oath to Yeddyurappa, a staunch activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and other ministers on the portals the majestic Secretariat building in the heart of Bangalore. The lone woman member to take oath was Shobha Karandlaje, elected to the assembly for the first time from Yashwantpur in Bangalore city.
