Five injured in police firing in Uttar Pradesh

Kanshiram Nagar (Uttar Pradesh): At least five people were injured when police opened fire to disperse an agitating crowd here Friday. The locals were protesting against the the government's decision to dissolve one of the tehsils of the newly constituted Kanshiram Nagar district.

Kanshiram Nagar Superintendent of Police Luv Kumar told INAS: "Agitated locals took to the roads to protest against the government's decision to dissolve the Soron tehsil in the Kanshiram Nagar district. They damaged state transport buses. Soron's telephone exchange was also set on fire by the angry mob."

Senior police and district administration officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident, sources said.
